🔭 Scientific Evidence
Pro-Kolin Advanced has the strongest direct clinical evidence of any canine digestive paste. A randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial of 148 dogs with acute diarrhoea across UK and Ireland veterinary practices β published in the Journal of Veterinary Internal Medicine (2019) β found diarrhoea resolved 1.6× faster in the Pro-Kolin group vs placebo (P=0.02), with fewer dogs requiring additional medical intervention. An earlier controlled trial of 51 dogs also showed faster return to normal faecal consistency. The formula combines Enterococcus faecium 4b1707 (a registered EU probiotic strain), Preplex prebiotic, kaolin and montmorillonite clay (natural gut soothing agents), psyllium fibre, pectin and beta-glucans. One caveat: both studies were funded by ADM Protexin Ltd, who manufacture the product β independent replication would further strengthen the evidence.

🔭 Scientific Evidence
FortiFlora contains Enterococcus faecium SF68, the most extensively studied probiotic strain in veterinary medicine. A 2003 Journal of Nutrition study demonstrated that puppies fed SF68 showed significantly enhanced immune function and maintained vaccine-specific antibodies longer than controls. A 2011 randomised shelter study showed dogs receiving SF68 experienced fewer diarrhoea episodes vs placebo. A 2012 trial on Alaskan sled dogs found SF68 significantly reduced both the number and severity of diarrhoea days vs placebo. A 2017 randomised clinical trial confirmed SF68 was effective alongside metronidazole for treating shelter dogs with diarrhoea. Proprietary microencapsulation ensures the bacteria survive stomach acid and reach the intestinal tract. The No.1 veterinarian-recommended dog probiotic brand in the UK and US.

YuMOVE Digestive Care, Dog Pre and Probiotics Supplement for Gut Health, Digestive Support
🔭 Scientific Evidence
YuMOVE Digestive Care contains Enterococcus faecium NCIMB 10415 E1707 β the same EU-registered probiotic strain used in Pro-Kolin Advanced and FortiFlora, which has multiple published canine clinical trials supporting its efficacy for gut health and diarrhoea management. The formula also contains ActivBioβ’ β a proprietary prebiotic complex of MOS, scFOS and Beta-glucans β which work together to block bad bacteria and feed beneficial gut flora. No product-specific published clinical trial exists for YuMOVE Digestive Care itself, distinguishing it from Pro-Kolin Advanced which has its own peer-reviewed JVIM study. However the ingredient evidence is solid. From Lintbells, the same trusted UK brand behind the clinically-tested YuMOVE joint supplement range.

Protexin Pro-Fibre for Dogs β High Digestive Supplement with Prebiotics & Postbiotics
🔭 Scientific Evidence
Pro-Fibre is a daily high-fibre supplement combining prebiotics and a clinically proven postbiotic (Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis CECT 8145, branded Priome® MH) with high-quality dietary fibres including psyllium husk and sugar beet pulp. The postbiotic strain has published clinical evidence supporting its role in supporting a healthy gut microbiome. Psyllium is well-evidenced for stool firming and improving bowel regularity in dogs. However no product-specific published canine clinical trial exists for Pro-Fibre itself β distinguishing it from Pro-Kolin Advanced which has its own peer-reviewed JVIM study. From Protexin, the UK's No.1 veterinary digestive supplement manufacturer by value. Recommended by 9 out of 10 UK vets. Particularly effective for anal gland issues due to the stool-bulking effect of high fibre content.

📊 How We Score
Products are scored using a science-weighted formula. Scientific study evidence carries 5× more weight per data point than customer reviews. Science confidence uses a logarithmic scale — so moving from 5 to 10 study subjects increases confidence significantly, while the gap between 90 and 100 subjects matters much less. This fairly reflects how evidence actually works in practice. Review confidence uses a higher minimum floor for science-scored products (75% for 1,000+ reviews) because specialist veterinary products often have fewer reviews than mass-market items — not because they are worse products, but because they are less frequently purchased. Review confidence caps at 5,000 reviews for full confidence.
A ⚠️ Limited Reviews badge appears when fewer than 1,000 reviews are available.
